A hint of pine
A hint of berry
And I am feeling
Very merry
It is time for
Christmas potpourri
I’m traveling back
To race car tracks
A year when I was
Much less hairy
It’s a sentimental
Memory
I walk into a room
Take a whiff and then:
Zoom!
I’m traveling back
To that Chipmunk soundtrack
It’s hardly arbitrary
It is time for
Christmas potpourri
It’s a sentimental
Memory

First take a stick of butter
Cream it with sugars too
Add 3 eggs and vanilla
Then beat until well fused
Mix raisins, nuts and sour cream
Amid the other batter
Blend simultaneously
Mix cinnamon and soda
Nutmeg, salt, pepper too
Next add the baking powder
Sift flour gently through
Then blend the flours right
Combine to make a stiff dough
Then chill it overnight
Roll into ropes quite narrow
Make sev'ral batches here
Snip with the kitchen scissors
Small balls of Christmas Cheer
Bake at 400 Farenheit
And then enjoy with coffee
Anytime of the night

The turkey is all gone
(we finished off our plates)
The peas and corn are done
(we ate too much again)
It's time to bake the cookies for when Santa finally comes
(it's finally time to bake)
The pumpkin pie we ate
(with coffee and some nog)
The candy canes were great
(we couldn't stop at one)
It's time to cut the carrots for when Santa's reindeer come
(i hear that Rudolph's fun)
We're dimming all the lights
(it's almost time for bed)
We're ready for the night
(we're laying down our head)
It's time to share the cookies and the carrots
for when Santa and his reindeer finally come
(they're gonna leave here fed)
((we'll dream of sugar plums and packs of gum
when Santa and his reindeer finally come))

It's going to be a lonely Christmas
Just won't be a holiday
I'll sit here in my room and cry
Because you went and took your loving away
It's going to be a sad, sad occasion
'Cause this time I know there won't be
Presents wrapped in any fancy paper
On the branches of my Christmas tree
Last year was fine 'cause your love was mine
And I knew you'd come when I call
This year I'll be blue and lonely listening to
The music from the party, 'cross the hall
I could have that Christmas feeling
Every day the whole year through
If you would send the Christmas gift I long for
Darling, tell me once more, "I love you"
Last year was fine because your love was mine
And I knew you come when I call
But this year I'll be blue and lonely listen to
The music from the party, across the hall
Well, I could have the Christmas feeling
Every day the whole year through
If you would send the Christmas gift I long for
Darling, tell me once more, "I love you"

We were so hungry, but satiated
as we held the names of foods inside of our mouths
Super elated, that time we skated
in the frozen bathtub out behind our house
If we’d had ice skates, there’d be less traction
we could do the moonwalk with occasional flailing
your favorite baby is Blanket Jackson
so why you gotta hang me out over the railing?
where we strung up the Christmas wreath
we made from trash we found on the street
Oh Jesus help us, can you please save me
in this tiny town with my David Koresh shirt?
Who’ll fill our dirty socks up with candy
when we hang them underneath the air freshener tree
inside of the car we’ve lived in
ever since they cut off the heat?

Well here I was, a nice protestant boy growing up in the northern wild of British Columbia
Now, where I come from it always appeared to me that Christmas landed on the 25th and that was that, plain and simple
These 12 days of Christmas some people talk about was nothing more than some tom-foolery about french hens and drummers and maids a milking
No true love of mine would ever take a shine to me if I pranced that parade around
When I was about 25, I met a real nice catholic girl
She says to me, "boy, dont you know this is too rich a season to celebrate just one day?"
I said, "well, Im sorry miss but that just how I was taught"
She said, “well have I got a thing or two to teach you” and then she told me, she tried to set me straight she said ...
Why take a day, when you could have a dozen
Christ is born, let the feasts keep coming
Those Catholics might know a think or two
Why take a day when you could have a dozen
It seemed to me that after all that buying and wrapping sometimes the Christmas day felt a bit anticlimactic
In the tryptophan hangover while going to buy even more items the very next day I started to wonder who this holiday is really about
Well man oh man, I married that girl, and after my first Christmas with her I felt a new man
I mean a whole twelve days of singing, and eating, and drinking does the soul good
That fine time of peace the angels told unto those shepherds was worth sittin’ on
Immanuel they called him, God with us
I guess if the good Lord went to such an effort to be with us, it felt good an' right to take some time to be with him
By golly, I think everyone should marry a Catholic!
Why take a day, when you could have a dozen
Christ is born, let the feasts keep coming
Those Catholics might know a think or two
Why take a day when you could have a dozen
Well the new year was rung in with a whistle and a hoot and yet this Christmas season was but half done
Reminds me of those Jewish weddings, where a whole week the bride and groom put on some party
Music plays long and the wine flows freely and a whole community celebrates their family joining together with another
Well, what a great idea for the wedding procession of Christ and his bride to have each year
A dozen delightful days to celebrate such a joyous union, heaven and earth if you could believe it
If there can be twelve tribes and twelve disciples I reckon twelve days sounds about right
So don’t let no one short-change ya
Next time someone tells ya to turn down that music after the 25th, or you see Christmas trees tossed at the end of the driveway,
You just go up to em’ and tell em’
Why take a day, when you could have a dozen
Christ is born, let the feasts keep coming
Those Catholics might know a think or two
Why take a day when you could have a dozen

The right way to celebrate is with an eggnog
The easiest way to get an eggnog is to know somebody who makes a good one and go visit them
If you haven't got that kind of friend you're going to need:
12 eggs
2 1/4 cups of sugar
1 quart of good brandy
1 pint of Jamaica rum
3 quarts of heavy cream
If you've got all those groceries, you don't need any friends
And if you own all that good liquor..
.. you won't be able to keep them away
Our recipe comes from Virginia and it's dated 1675
Take the yolks of your 12 eggs and beat them well
Add your sugar and beat that well
Alternately add your brandy and rum
And don't get excited!
Do it slowly
Now put in the cream
Take half of your eggs, beat the whites, and fold them in
The other half you beat as stiff as you can
Add this in with the cup of powdered sugar
Sorry, I forgot to mention the powdered sugar
Also, another quart of cream - that's the fifth quart
You stir it in lightly - very lightly
Now your work is done
Just let the eggnog stand for about 12 hours in a cold place
All I can get for that recipe is the cold place
Cheer like that, I'm afraid, is just another one of my New Year's post-war dreams
I hope it comes true for all of us

Hope
All we need is hope
Where does our hope come from?
Love
Like a mother's love
Where does our love come from?
Joy
A little simple joy
Where does our joy come from?
Peace
Give us some relief
Where does our peace come from?
The Child
The Child
We are waiting for you
The Child
The Child
We are waiting for you
The Child
The Child
We are waiting for you

Canta aleluya a Cristo, mi niño
Canta, mi niño
Canta, mi niño
Canta aleluya a Cristo, mi niñito
Canta, mi niño
Don’t you fear the dark, for He is the Light
Shining like that Eastern star
Born to bring the dawn and erase the night
This Prince of Peace will help you sleep tight
Is there heavy weight on your shoulders?
And a heavy heart from crying?
Have you been trying to always be good
But still your days end in sighing?
Canta aleluya a Cristo, mi niño
Canta, mi niño
Canta, mi niño
Canta aleluya a Cristo, mi niñito
El Príncipe dice que estás perdonado
Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, loves pure light
Radiant beams from His holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
At the birth of our Lord
And at the death of our Lord
Duerme tranquilo con Cristo, mi niño
Duerme, mi niño
Duerme, mi niño
Duerme tranquilo con Cristo, mi cariño
El Príncipe dice que estás perdonado
Duerme tranquilo con Cristo, mi cariño
El Príncipe dice que estás protegido
Duerme tranquilo con Cristo, mi cariño
El Príncipe dice que eres amado

Infant holy,
Infant lowly,
For His bed a cattle stall;
Oxen lowing,
Little knowing
Christ the Babe is Lord of all.
Swift are winging
Angels singing,
Noels ringing,
Tidings bringing,
Christ the Babe is Lord of all.
Flocks were sleeping,
Shepherds keeping
Vigil till the morning new,;
Saw the glory,
Heard the story,
Tidings of a Gospel true.
Thus rejoicing,
Free from sorrow,
Praises voicing,
Greet the morrow,
Christ the Babe was born for you!
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Joy to the world, the Lord is come.

It's been a few years since we left
Traded rising oceans for the colony
But just cause Jesus was born on earth
Doesn't mean we don't celebrate his birth
We know he watches over us from outer space
We got a sky shield that keeps us warm
It protects from radiation and the dust storms
Although rain and ice can't fall through
We make snow flakes with cotton and glue
And Christmas trees grow at every nursery
[Chorus]
It's 2066
Christmas on Mars
We flash laser beams
So you'll see us among the stars
Can't stop the cheer
It's the best two days a year
During 686 days of orbit
Christmas on mars
We got lego shaped twin cities
One named Spirit and the other Opportunity
We visit each other via suction tube
Sharing gifts like the earthlings do
Singing Christmas carols in Martian
Santa's reindeer must eat their holly berries
Cause The North Pole is millions of miles away
Crossing the horizon of the Phobos moon
We hear Santa singing jolly tunes
Spreading Christmas cheer through the in atmosphere
It's 2066
Christmas on Mars
We flash laser beams
So you'll see us among the stars
Can't stop the cheer
It's the best two days a year
During 686 days of orbit
Christmas on mars

Let’s order some takeout,
it’s Christmas Eve after all
Well, what are we thinking?
Let’s look online and see
I’m craving some calamari
I know it’s not seasonal
But what if it is – hold on, hear me out now –
What if it’s artificial?
Well, that got us to talking
‘bout substitutes and the like
Sustainable living
and local produce we like
But what if I crave calamari?
I know it’s not reasonable
But what if it is – hold on, hear me out now –
What if it’s unofficial?
Pork is available and just so happens to be
One of the cheapest ways to source fake calamari
It tastes the same and it looks the same
Though, ideal it might not be
You’ll just have to trust me
Oh, you’ll just have to trust me
So, what are you saying?
It’s deep-fried snout or the lung?
Well, actually not quite.
It’s made from pig bung ...
I’m still craving some calamari
I know it’s unusual
But I am OK if – hold on, hear me out now –
I’m OK with artificial

Dad was a dreamer, who fancied himself a schemer, And never really got the hang of sharing love consistently.
But at this time of year, with the lights and the cheer, he could pull it out and pull her along.
Make a feast for the eyes, a feast of surprises, and before long he'd fill her right up.
With a healthy young greed for things she didn't need, and a promise of better days to come.
Well you can feast on the food and the booze if you choose, at the stores, the decor and the stuff.
But I think it's best to feast on the love.
A colour TV, shiney CDs, space Lego and all of the rest. Transformers, handwarmers and a blue T Shirt, with #1 brother is puffy white letters on the chest.
Plates full of treats, a grand selection of meats, pounds of cheap chocolate and cracked nuts.
Sipped wine to stay happy, with all my different families, but the next day it's all swept up like dust.
Well you can feast on the food and the booze if you choose, at the stores, the decor and the stuff.
But I like to feast on the love.
She's up in mom's bed, with dreams in her head, of all the stuff she'd get the next day.
All those beautiful gifts, to mend all the old rifts, a resounding joy to sweep them away
If it could all just sweep her away.
Well we could all just be swept away.
You can feast on the food and the booze if you choose, at the stores, the decor and the stuff.
But I suggest we feast on the love.

Music on the radio
Holiday lights all a glow
Children playing in the snow
At our family gathering
Cookies in the oven bake
On the table a festive cake
From the sky fall big white flakes
At our family gathering
Chorus:
A special bonding with loved ones
It's time to celebrate
Being together is so much fun
On this festive date
The tree shines merry and bright
Decorations green, red and white
A real breath-taking sight
At our family gathering
All the family is near
Voices rise in love and cheer
How I love to have them here
At our family gathering

Il y a douze garcons dansant sur la plaine (There are twelve boys dancing on the plain)
Douze jolie filles dansent sur la plaine (Twelve pretty girls dance on the plain)
Ils s'inclinent devant les filles (The boys bow to the girls)
Elles font la reverance (The girls curtsy)
Oh comme ces blaireaux dansent! (Oh how those badgers dance!)
Ils dansent si joliment pour Noel (They dance so beautifully for Christmas)
Et maintenant ils boivent du lait de poule (And now they drink some egg nog)
Et offrez leurs cadeaux au coin de feu (and give their gifts by the fireside)

Where's the wrapping paper?
And the Christmas lights?
This house is such a mess
Where're the Christmas cards?
And the postage stamps?
This house is such a mess
That only God could bless.
But on the Christmas Day
We're gonna celebrate
Even if I can't find the things I got you this year.
Now it's Christmas at last
And all my presents are wrapped
In blankets in bed at rest.
This house is such a mess (And I'm happy with you)
That only God could bless (And I'm grateful for you)

It's 10:00 on a Christmas Eve somewhere
The presents are under the tree
And all the kids are excited
But it's time to sleep
Can't hardly wait 'til the mornin'
'Cuz in the town I was born in
The snow'll be on the ground
And celebrating all around
I pressed my face against the window
And saw lights all over the sky
Red and green and blue and yellow filled my up all my sight
With all the animals sleepin'
Not a single critter is creepin'
I see things around the tree
What could they be?
Tomorrow's just another day
In the morning when the sun's up
There'll be time to...
Time to spend together
And when all the gifts are open
We'll be satisfied

The animals make no sound
Mary watches stars so quietly
The shepherds gather 'round
Silent Night, Holy Night
The wise men pack their gifts and make their way
miles and miles to see the King
We all wonder what it would be like
to be a star, watching everything
Silent Night, Holy Night

Maybe it's much too early in the game
Oh, but I thought I'd ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year's, New Year's Eve?
Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it's exactly 12 o'clock, midnight
Welcoming in the New Year, New Year's Eve
Oh, maybe I'm crazy to suppose
That I'd ever be the one you chose
Out of the thousand invitations you receive
Oh, but in case I stand one little chance
Here comes the jackpot question in advance
What are you doing New Year's, New Year's Eve?

Oh, maybe I'm crazy to suppose

After some time apart
There’s the swelling
Of the heart
We feel the absence
Make us fonder
And we long for
Over yonder
Soon enough we will
Share a feast
Like bread we bake
Our longing is the yeast
It’ll feel so good
To finally have you
In our neighborhood
We’ve missed these times
But our love’s
Only increased
So wear your masks
Do your socially distanced tasks
Let your patience
Do it’s vital work
We can’t predict
When any one of us
Might get sick
But we can let our fondness grow
Until we find the cure
